What to bring
Papers to bring
- Aadhaar card or another photo identity proof (photocopy; the original to show)
- Your father's caste certificate, or another close family member's, if there is one: offices usually rely on it
- A record that shows the caste, such as the school leaving certificate or an old revenue record, if available
- Proof of residence, such as the voter card or ration card; in Haryana, the Family ID (Parivar Pehchan Patra) number
- Two recent passport-size photographs
Where to go
Sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary, or made as a self-declaration where accepted, then filed with the application at the Sewa Kendra (Punjab), a Saral Kendra or the Saral portal (Haryana) or a Sampark centre (Chandigarh). The Patwari or another field officer reports on it, and the revenue officer, usually the Tehsildar, issues the certificate.
Fee
The service centre's fee, the e-Stamp paper and the Oath Commissioner's or Notary's fee are paid at the counter; ask there for today's amounts.
Good to know
- A Scheduled Caste certificate is issued only to a Hindu, a Sikh or a Buddhist (the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950).
- For a Central Government job or admission, an OBC certificate is in the Central format with the creamy-layer test: use the app's affidavit for an OBC / BC non-creamy layer certificate.
- A certificate got on a false statement is cancelled, and benefits taken on it can be withdrawn.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Punjab: affidavits are usually typed on e-stamp paper (buy it at an authorised e-stamp centre; check the current duty there) and sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary. Many state services now accept a self-declaration instead.
Haryana: use e-stamp paper (egrashry / authorised vendors; check the current duty) and swear before an Oath Commissioner or Notary.
Chandigarh: e-stamp paper from an authorised centre (check the current duty); sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary.
