Privacy policy

Dastavo is made by Workaholic Developers ("we"). This policy explains what the app, the computer version at dastavo.wdlab.app/app/ and this website do with information. In short: you can make and print documents without an account, and then nothing you type leaves your device (unless you send a client a fill-in link, and then only encrypted so that we cannot read it, or ask Dastavo to read an old paper, which our server reads and deletes at once). In an office, clients and formats are shared with the office, and each paper's fee line with its owner; documents never are.

Without an account

Documents, clients and settings are stored only on your phone or in your browser. Templates and app updates are downloaded from our server; those requests carry no personal information. We use no advertising and no tracking, and the website loads nothing from other companies.

Anonymous usage counts

To know how many people use Dastavo, the app sends us once a day a random number it made when it was installed (we store only a scrambled form of it), the platform, the app version and the chosen languages; and, when a document is created, which template it came from and its language. Our website counts each page view and, once a day, each visitor from a scrambled code of the network address, browser and date that can't be matched from one day to the next; no cookies are used. None of this includes names, documents, addresses or anything you type, and none of it is linked to an account. You can turn the app's counts off in Settings (Share anonymous usage counts); the website skips counting when your browser asks not to be tracked. Daily counts are kept for up to 400 days.

With an account (sync and the computer version)

Your clients' information

When a typist or lawyer saves a client in Dastavo, the typist or lawyer decides what is saved and why (they are the data fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023) and Dastavo processes it for them. The app asks once per client that you have the person's consent. Aadhaar numbers are stored only masked (XXXX XXXX 1234). You can export or delete a client and their documents in one action; clients unused for three years are flagged for deletion. In an office, saved clients are shared with everyone in it, and the office's owner decides what is saved and why.

Microphone, speech and camera

Voice typing uses your phone's or browser's own speech recognition (Apple, Google or your browser's provider, as shown in the app); the audio never reaches our server. Read aloud uses the voices on your device. The camera is used only to take a photo for a document's photo box, to photograph an old paper for Dastavo to read, to scan a signed copy or the QR code that links a computer, and only when you choose to.

Photos in documents

Some papers have a photo box, for example an affidavit with the deponent's photograph. A photo you take or choose for it is cropped on your device and kept inside that document as a small picture (at most 600 pixels, without the original file or its location data). It stays on your device, or syncs with the document (encrypted at rest) when sync is on, and it is deleted with the document. Please ask the person before you photograph them. The "What to bring" checklist holds no personal details; when you share it, it goes to the app you pick (on the computer, WhatsApp opens with the text ready), not to us.

e-Stamp certificates

If you add an e-Stamp certificate's details to a document (its number, date, parties and duty), they are part of that document: they stay on your device, or sync with it (encrypted at rest) when sync is on. A certificate file you attach stays on your device only: Dastavo keeps a picture of its first page there and never uploads it. "Verify on SHCIL" opens SHCIL's public verification page in your browser; Dastavo sends nothing to SHCIL and checks no certificate itself.

Shop fees, receipts and renewal reminders

In shop mode, a document's fee, whether and how it was paid, and its receipt number are part of that document, and your UPI ID is one of your settings: they stay on your device, or sync with your documents and settings (encrypted at rest) when sync is on. The UPI QR code on a receipt is made on your device; your client pays from their own UPI app to your bank account, and Dastavo never sees the payment. So that two of your devices never give the same receipt number, a signed-in device asks our server once for its own receipt letter (A, B …); we keep only that letter with your account (or, in an office, with the office) and a scrambled form of the device's install number. Renewal reminders are scheduled on your phone by the phone itself; nothing about them is sent to us.

Your own formats and batches

A format you make from your own wording (My formats) keeps the text you paste, type or import, with the words you marked as blanks; those words (for example a name in the paper you started from) stay in the format as its example, so remove or change them if they are a client's. A batch keeps the table you fill or import from a spreadsheet, a row per person, and makes ordinary documents from it. Files you import for them (.docx, .txt or .csv) are read on your device and never uploaded. Formats and batches stay on your device, or sync with your documents (encrypted at rest) when sync is on, and are deleted with your account; they are never shown to other users, unless you share them in an office (below). The anonymous usage counts never name your formats.

Offices (shop and team accounts)

An office lets a shop's owner and staff work together; each person signs in on their own phone or computer. For an office our server keeps its name, the people in it, the name each person gives themselves there and when they joined; an invite code is kept only in a scrambled form (with its last two characters) until it expires, is used up or is cancelled. Shared in the office: the client cards and My formats saved in it (and the ones you choose to share when you start or join), which everyone in the office can see, change and use; and, for each paper with a fee that a member makes after joining, a short fee line (the paper's title, the fee, whether and how it was paid, its receipt number, the date and the member's name in the office) that only the owner and that member can see, so that the owner's register counts everyone's papers. Never shared: your documents themselves (their contents, the clients' details in them, photos, e-Stamp details), your settings, batches and case diary; members never see each other's documents. What is shared is encrypted at rest on our server with a key that belongs to the office, not to any one member, and is decrypted only to send it to the devices of the office's members. The owner can remove a member or hand the office to another member, and a member can leave: their devices then stop receiving the office's records and remove their copies, while the clients and formats they shared stay with the office and their fee lines so far stay in its register. If the owner deletes their account, the office passes to the member who joined first; an owner alone in an office can close it, and its clients and formats become the owner's own again. In an office, receipt letters (A, B …) are handed out per office, so no two devices in it give the same receipt number.

Case diary and calculators

The case diary keeps the cases and dates you enter: titles, parties, court, case number, CNR, stage, what happened on each date, notes, and links to your saved clients and papers. It stays on your device, or syncs with your documents (encrypted at rest) when sync is on, and is deleted with your account. "Open on eCourts" copies the CNR on your device and opens the official eCourts page in your browser; Dastavo sends nothing to eCourts and reads nothing from it. Hearing reminders are scheduled on your phone by the phone itself; nothing about them is sent to us. The limitation and court-fee calculators work on your device: the dates and amounts you type are not sent anywhere.

A typist can send a client a link to fill in their own details (for example their name, father's or husband's name, age and address) on their own phone, without an account. For each link the typist's app makes a random key and puts it only in the part of the link after "#", which browsers never send to any server. The questions (with any details already filled in and the typist's shop name) are encrypted with that key on the typist's device, and the client's answers are encrypted with it in the client's browser, so our server stores only scrambled text that we cannot read, with the times the link was made, expires and was answered. A link is not tied to an account. A link works once and for at most 7 days. The stored text is deleted as soon as the typist's app has collected the answers or the typist cancels the link, and in any case 7 days after the link was made. Anyone who has the whole link can open it until it is used, so send it only to your client. To stop misuse, our server counts links and answers per network address and per app install for a short time; the counters hold nothing that was typed. The page loads nothing from other companies and counts no visits. If the client taps Speak, their browser's own speech service (for example Google's in Chrome or Apple's in Safari) turns their voice into text, as with any voice typing. On the typist's device the answers stay with the link (for up to 30 days) until they are accepted into the document or removed.

Reading old papers

"Read an old paper" sends the photo or PDF you choose (an old deed, jamabandi, affidavit, FIR or order) to our server over an encrypted connection, with the languages to read it in and the app's random install number. If you are signed in, your device's sign-in token goes along too, only so that a daily limit can be counted per account. Our server reads the text with open-source software (Tesseract) running on our own server, sends the text back to your device and deletes the file, its pages and the text at once, before the answer leaves; nothing from the paper is stored, logged or shown to anyone, and no other company receives it. We keep only a daily count of how many papers were read, with nothing about them. To stop misuse, our server counts reads per network address, per app install and per account for a short time; the counters hold nothing that was read. A large photo is made smaller on your phone before it is sent. The text and the suggested values stay on your screen and are gone when you leave it; only the values you choose to use are saved into your document, like anything you type. Please photograph only papers you have the right to handle, with your client's consent.

Things you choose to send us

If you suggest a change to a template's wording, or agree to share a keyboard table you taught Dastavo, we receive that text or table (without your documents) to improve Dastavo. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time and address requested) for up to 14 days to keep the service secure. If the computer version can't start, it sends us a short technical report (what it was waiting for, timings and your browser's version, never your documents or details) so we can fix the problem; we keep it for 14 days.

Font conversion of .doc files

Old .doc files are converted on our server: the file is converted, sent back and deleted at once. Nothing is kept. .docx files and pasted text are converted on your device.

Features coming in an update

AI drafting, AI translation and premium voices are not part of this version. When they arrive, the app will ask before any text is sent to an AI provider (Anthropic) or a voice provider (Sarvam); such requests will be kept for 30 days for abuse review and then deleted, and you will be able to delete yours at once. This policy will be updated before then.

Children

Dastavo is a professional tool and is not directed at children.
