GENERAL POWER OF ATTORNEY
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS that I, Vikram Singh son of Shri Harbans Singh, aged about 52 years, resident of House No. 45, Gulab Colony, Amarnagar, Tehsil and District Amarnagar, Punjab, appoint Gurdev Singh son of Shri Karnail Singh, aged about 48 years, resident of House No. 88, Model Town, Amarnagar, Tehsil and District Amarnagar, Punjab as my general attorney, to do the following acts in my name and on my behalf:
1.To look after, manage and supervise my property described below, and to let it out, collect rent and give receipts.
2.To pay taxes, bills and dues, and to deal with the municipal, revenue, electricity, water and other offices about the property.
3.To appear for me before any court, tribunal, revenue officer or authority; to sign, verify and file plaints, written statements, applications, appeals and affidavits; and to engage advocates.
4.To sign and present any document for registration before the Sub-Registrar, and to admit its execution.

What to bring
Papers to bring
- Your Aadhaar card or another photo identity proof, and the attorney's, with the attorney's full name, father's or husband's name and address
- Two recent passport-size photographs of you and of the attorney
- Papers of the property the power covers, if any: the registry, jamabandi (fard) or municipal record (photocopies)
- Two witnesses, each with an identity proof
Where to go
Signed by you before two witnesses. A power over land or a house is usually registered at the Sub-Registrar's office, where you appear in person with your identity proof; a power only for court cases or office work is often just attested by a Notary.
Fee
Stamp duty follows the state's schedule: usually a fixed amount, but a power to sell land given for a price, or to someone outside the family, is charged like a sale in some states (Punjab among them). The registration fee is extra; ask the Sub-Registrar's office before buying the e-Stamp.
Good to know
- A power of attorney does not transfer ownership: the Supreme Court has held that a sale by power of attorney (a "GPA sale") is not a sale. The power ends when you revoke it, or on your death.
- Choose an attorney you trust fully: a general power lets the attorney act for you in many matters, and you are bound by what the attorney does within it.
- To cancel it later, use "Revocation of a power of attorney" and tell the attorney and every office where it was used.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
A power of attorney carries stamp duty; one to sell immovable property must be registered in most states. Check the current rules.
