What to bring
Papers to bring
- Your Aadhaar card and voter card (photocopies; the originals to show)
- Proof of the years lived in Punjab: ration card, electricity bills, property papers or jamabandi (fard), or school records of study in Punjab
- For a child: the child's birth certificate and school certificates, and the parent's proof of residence
- The sarpanch's, numberdar's or ward councillor's verification, where the form asks
- Two recent passport-size photographs
Where to go
Sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary, or made as a self-declaration where accepted, then filed with the application at the Sewa Kendra. The Patwari or another field officer reports on it, and the revenue officer, usually the Tehsildar or SDM, issues the certificate.
Fee
The Sewa Kendra's service fee, the e-Stamp paper and the attestation fee are paid at the counter; ask there for today's amounts.
Good to know
- The years of residence needed depend on the purpose (a state job, an admission quota, a scheme); check the notice or prospectus before applying.
- Do not apply if you already hold a residence certificate of another state or Union Territory: the affidavit says you do not.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Punjab: affidavits are usually typed on e-stamp paper (buy it at an authorised e-stamp centre; check the current duty there) and sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary. Many state services now accept a self-declaration instead.
