What to bring
Papers to bring
- Your Aadhaar card and PAN card (photocopies; the originals to show)
- The passbook or cheque book of the account
- Proof of the new detail: for an address, a utility bill or the rent agreement; for a name, the marriage certificate or the Gazette
- For a nominee: the nominee's full name, relationship, date of birth and address, and a guardian's name if the nominee is a minor
- The bank's own nomination or KYC form
- Two recent passport-size photographs, if the office asks for them
Where to go
Banks usually update the nominee and KYC on their own form at the branch, or online, without an affidavit. Where the branch asks for one, sign it before an Oath Commissioner or Notary and give it with the form at your home branch.
Fee
The bank usually charges nothing to update KYC or the nominee. If the branch wants an affidavit, the e-Stamp paper and the attestation fee are paid at the counter; ask there for today's amounts.
Good to know
- Keep the bank's acknowledgement of the nomination, and ask for the nominee's name to be printed in the passbook.
- In a joint account, all the holders usually sign the nomination together.
- Update the KYC when the bank asks (periodic re-KYC): an account with old KYC can be restricted until it is updated.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Punjab: affidavits are usually typed on e-stamp paper (buy it at an authorised e-stamp centre; check the current duty there) and sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary. Many state services now accept a self-declaration instead.
Haryana: use e-stamp paper (egrashry / authorised vendors; check the current duty) and swear before an Oath Commissioner or Notary.
Chandigarh: e-stamp paper from an authorised centre (check the current duty); sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary.
