What to bring
Papers to bring
- The student's identity card and the latest report card or fee receipt
- For a transfer certificate: the no-dues slip or the receipts of the last fees, and the library card
- For a fee concession: proof of the hardship, such as an income certificate, a BPL or ration card, or the death certificate of the earning parent
- For leave on medical grounds: the doctor's certificate
- When a parent signs, the parent's identity proof
Where to go
At the school or college office, addressed to the Principal or Head; keep a copy with the receiving.
Fee
Some schools and colleges charge a fee for certificates, and for a duplicate; ask the office.
Good to know
- For a child up to class VIII, a delay in getting the transfer certificate is not a ground to delay or refuse admission to the new school (Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, s.5).
- Ask the office about the scholarships and fee waivers the state or the institution runs; they usually have their own forms and dates.
- Check the name, the parents' names and the date of birth on the transfer certificate before leaving the office; a duplicate usually needs an affidavit.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
