To,
The Sub-Divisional Officer (Operation),
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL),
City Sub-Division No. 2, Amarnagar
Subject: Correction of a wrong electricity bill, account No. 0000000123
Sir/Madam,
This concerns the electricity connection, account No. 0000000123 (domestic supply), meter No. X0000001, at House No. 12, Street No. 3, Nanak Nagar, Amarnagar, Tehsil and District Amarnagar, Punjab.
My bill (dated 05-10-2026, for August and September 2026), for ₹14,260 (Rupees Fourteen Thousand Two Hundred and Sixty only), is wrong: it charges 1,850 units, though the meter shows only 412 units used since the last reading, and my usual use is about 400 units in two months.
Please check the meter reading and my consumption, and issue a corrected bill.
I have deposited ₹2,600 (Rupees Two Thousand Six Hundred only) under protest on 10-10-2026, that is, the lower of the amount claimed and my charges for that period worked out on my average of the preceding six months. Under Section 56(1) of the Electricity Act, 2003, my supply is not to be disconnected while this dispute is pending.
Kindly do the needful at the earliest and let me know.

What to bring
Papers to bring
- The latest bill, and the disputed bill if it is a different one
- Identity proof of the person in whose name the connection is
- For a wrong bill: a dated photograph of the meter reading, the earlier bills, and the receipt of any amount paid under protest
- For a change of load: usually the wiring test report of a licensed electrical contractor, and the owner's consent if you are a tenant
- For reconnection: the receipt of the dues paid; for permanent disconnection: the last paid bill and the security deposit receipt, if you have it
Where to go
At the office of your sub-division (shown on the bill), or through the utility's website, app or helpline; get a receiving or complaint number.
Fee
Meter testing, a change of load and reconnection carry charges that the utility fixes under the state commission's rules; ask the office for the current amounts.
Good to know
- If you dispute a bill, pay under protest the bill or your average charges of the last six months for that period, whichever is less; the supply is then not to be cut off while the dispute lasts (Electricity Act, 2003, s.56(1)).
- If the office does not settle it, complain to the utility's Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum, and after that to the Electricity Ombudsman.
- Photograph the meter reading with the date before you go; it settles most billing and meter disputes.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
