What to bring
Papers to bring
- Aadhaar card or another photo identity proof (photocopy; the original to show)
- Papers that support each fact you state (photocopies; keep the originals)
- Copies of any earlier application on the same matter, with its receipt or diary number, and any order passed
- The land particulars (village, khewat and khasra numbers) or the file or case number, if the matter has one
Where to go
Handed in at the receipt counter of the Tehsildar's, SDM's or Deputy Commissioner's office, which gives a diary number, or sent by registered post; some matters can also go through the state's online grievance portal.
Fee
Plain paper is usually enough; some applications need a court-fee stamp or an office fee, as the office directs.
Good to know
- Keep a copy with the office's receiving stamp, or the complaint or diary number, to follow it up.
- Keep it short and factual, one point to a paragraph, and say exactly what order you want.
- If nothing happens in a reasonable time, you can ask for the status under the RTI Act: see "RTI application (s.6(1) RTI Act)".
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
