What to bring
Papers to bring
- Your questions, one point each, asking for records (copies, file notings, status), not for opinions or reasons
- The application fee in the form the office takes, or, for a person below the poverty line, a copy of the BPL card instead
- Your full postal address for the reply; no identity proof or reason is needed
- A copy of the application, to keep with the postal receipt or receiving stamp
Where to go
Sent to the Public Information Officer of the office that holds the information, by post or by hand (the office gives a receipt); central offices also take it on the RTI Online portal, and some states have their own portal.
Fee
The application fee set by the RTI rules of the Centre or of the state, whichever the office comes under, paid by Indian Postal Order, demand draft, cash against a receipt or online where accepted; no fee for a person below the poverty line. Copies cost extra, as the rules fix.
