What to bring
Papers to bring
- Your Aadhaar card or another photo identity proof (photocopy; the original to show)
- Proof of your present address, and of the other addresses of the last five years if you have them
- Usually two recent passport-size photographs
- The letter that asks for the certificate, such as the appointment letter, licence form or admission notice, if you have one
- If a case is disclosed: copies of the FIR and of the court's order or judgment
Where to go
In Punjab, at the Saanjh Kendra; in Haryana and Chandigarh, at the district police office or through the state's online service portal. The police check their records and may visit your address before issuing it.
Fee
The state fixes the service fee, if any; ask at the Saanjh Kendra or the counter, or see the portal.
Good to know
- For going abroad (a visa, study, work or settling), the PCC comes from the Passport Office through Passport Seva, not from the district police.
- Disclose every case, even one that ended in acquittal or a compromise: a hidden case usually leads to refusal.
- Offices usually accept a certificate only for a limited time after it is issued, so apply close to when you need it.
