What to bring
Papers to bring
- The acknowledgement number from 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in, if you have already reported it
- A bank statement or the SMSes showing each debit, with the transaction or UTR numbers
- Screenshots of the messages, calls, links, websites or apps used, and the fraudster's phone numbers, UPI IDs or account numbers
- Aadhaar card or another photo identity proof (photocopy; the original to show)
- Your bank account and card details for the freeze and refund (never your PIN or OTP)
Where to go
Report first on the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in, as fast as you can. Then give this complaint at the cyber crime police station or the district cyber cell (or your police station) and get a receiving or complaint number.
Fee
There is no fee for giving a complaint to the police.
Good to know
- Call 1930 within the first hours: the sooner it is reported, the better the chance of freezing the money.
- Tell your bank in writing at once and block the card or UPI. If you did not share your OTP or PIN, reporting within three working days usually limits your loss under the RBI rules.
- Money frozen in the fraudster's account usually comes back only through the police and a court order, which takes time; never pay anyone who offers to "recover" it.
