What to bring
Papers to bring
- Aadhaar card or another photo identity proof (photocopy; the original to show)
- The particulars of the record: village and hadbast number, khewat, khatauni and khasra numbers, the mutation number, or the deed number, date and office
- For a non-encumbrance search: the period to be searched and the names of the owners in that period
- An authority letter and the identity proof of the person collecting, if someone else collects the copy for you
Where to go
At the office that keeps the record: the Fard Kendra or the Patwari for the jamabandi, girdawari and mutations; the Sub-Registrar's office for registered deeds and searches. Many land records can be seen on the state's land-record portal, but offices usually want a certified copy.
Fee
The copying or search fee per copy or per year searched, and the urgent fee if you ask for it, as the office fixes; paid at the counter or online. Ask there for today's amounts.
Good to know
- Check every name and number on the copy against your papers before you leave the counter.
- Banks and courts usually want a recently issued copy; ask how recent before you apply.
- A copy of a registered will is given only to the person who made it, until that person's death (s.57 Registration Act).
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Revenue offices usually take a court-fee stamp or a copying fee with such applications; pay it as the office directs.
