What to bring
Papers to bring
- Identity proof of both spouses (photocopies), and the spouse's passport, if any
- The marriage certificate, if the marriage is registered
- Otherwise, the wedding card, photographs of the ceremony, and the gurdwara's or temple's certificate if one was given
- Recent photographs of the two of you together, if the office or embassy asks
Where to go
Sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary (a visa file usually wants a Notary), then given to the passport office, embassy, employer or bank that asked for it.
Fee
The e-Stamp paper and the Oath Commissioner's or Notary's fee are paid at the counter; ask there for today's amounts.
Good to know
- Embassies and many offices prefer a marriage registration certificate; if the marriage is not registered, think of registering it (the app has the affidavits for that).
- For use abroad, the embassy may want the paper apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs; ask which attestation it needs.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Punjab: affidavits are usually typed on e-stamp paper (buy it at an authorised e-stamp centre; check the current duty there) and sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary. Many state services now accept a self-declaration instead.
Haryana: use e-stamp paper (egrashry / authorised vendors; check the current duty) and swear before an Oath Commissioner or Notary.
Chandigarh: e-stamp paper from an authorised centre (check the current duty); sworn before an Oath Commissioner or Notary.
