What to bring
Papers to bring
- A copy of the police report of the loss (lost article report)
- The details of each document: its number, date and the office that issued it
- Aadhaar card or another photo identity proof (photocopy; the original to show)
Where to go
Published in the newspapers the bank, Sub-Registrar or other office asks for, usually one in English and one in the local language; then given to that office with the affidavit or indemnity bond it wants.
Fee
The newspaper charges for the space; ask its advertisement office or an agent for today's rate. No stamp paper is needed.
Good to know
- Report the loss to the police first, at the police station or a Saanjh Kendra in Punjab, or online on the state police's service portal: see "Lost article report".
- For a lost registered deed, a certified copy can be had from the Sub-Registrar's office.
- Keep the full newspaper pages, with the paper's name and date, not only the cutting: offices often ask to see them.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Plain paper is enough.
