What to bring
Papers to bring
- A copy of the deed or agreement under which possession is given
- All the keys, and a list of the original documents being handed over
- Photographs of the meters with the readings on the day, and the last paid bills
- Identity proof of both (photocopies)

Where to go
Signed on the day possession is handed over, usually at the property, by both sides before two witnesses; each keeps a copy. It is usually not registered.
Fee
Plain paper is usually enough; some add a revenue stamp, signed across. Ask the deed writer.
Good to know
- Then move the electricity, water and property-tax accounts into the new name.
- If possession is given under an agreement to sell rather than a registered sale deed, the agreement usually needs to be registered to protect the buyer; ask a lawyer.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
A receipt for more than ₹5,000 usually carries a one-rupee revenue stamp, signed across.
