What to bring
Papers to bring
- The details of what was lost: the FD, share or certificate number, date and amount
- A copy of the police report of the loss, and the newspaper notice if the bank or company asks
- Your Aadhaar card and PAN card (photocopies; the originals to show)
- Two witnesses, and a surety if the bank or company asks, each with an identity proof
Where to go
Signed before two witnesses, usually on e-Stamp paper, and attested by a Notary if asked; then given to the bank, or for shares to the company's registrar (RTA), with its own forms.
Fee
Stamp duty on an indemnity bond follows the state's schedule and can depend on the amount; ask the e-Stamp centre before buying. The Notary's fee, if it is attested, is paid at the counter.
Good to know
- For shares, the registrar now usually issues the duplicate in demat form: keep a demat account ready.
- If the original turns up, return it at once for cancellation, as the bond says.
- Ask the bank or office for its own format first: many accept only theirs, and some also want a surety.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Indemnity bonds and guarantees carry stamp duty that depends on the state and the amount; banks and boards often prescribe their own format. Check before printing.
