What to bring
Papers to bring
- The main case: its number and year, the court, the names of the parties and the next date
- A copy of the bail order with its conditions
- Your passport (a photocopy of the first and last pages; the original if the court asks) and the visa
- Proof of the purpose and dates: the ticket or itinerary, an invitation, an admission or job letter, or medical papers
- Your address and phone number abroad, and an FD or property papers in case the court asks for security
Where to go
Filed through your advocate in the court where the case is pending (or the court whose bail order bars travel); the court usually calls for the prosecution's reply first.
Fee
Court fee and welfare stamps, where needed, are put on as the court office directs; ask the counter for today's amounts. The advocate's fee is separate.
Good to know
- Do not travel before the order is passed: leaving without permission can lead to cancellation of bail and a warrant.
- The court may ask for a surety, an FD or an undertaking, and fix a date to return and appear; keep to it exactly.
- If your passport is with the court or the police, also see "Application for release of a passport kept with the court or the police".
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
