What to bring
Papers to bring
- The main case: its number and year, the court, the names of the parties and the next date
- The record of the property: the jamabandi (fard) and khasra numbers with the aks shajra, or the house number and its boundaries, and a site plan
- The points the commissioner should report on: possession, construction, encroachment or demarcation
- Dated photographs of the spot, if you have them
Where to go
Filed through your advocate in the civil court where the suit is pending; if the court appoints a commissioner, it fixes the fee and the visit, and both sides are told the date.
Fee
Court fee and welfare stamps, where needed, as the court office directs, and the commissioner's fee as the court fixes, usually paid by the side that asks. Ask the counter for today's amounts.
Good to know
- Be at the spot on the day of the visit with your papers; the report, and any objections to it, become part of the record.
- For demarcation of land the court often appoints a revenue official, such as a Kanungo, who works from the revenue record.
Papers and fees can change. Check with the office before you go. Guidance only, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Stamp paper
Court fee and welfare stamps, where needed, are affixed as the court office directs.
